J. Michael Pemberton Ph.D., CRM, FAI

J. Michael Pemberton, Ph.D., CRM, is president of Information Management Associates, Inc. He is a certified records manager with more than thirty years of experience in informatin management as librarian, archivist, records manager, professor and consultant. He and the other IMA consultants have created and led records management programs in the private and public sectors that are considered exemplary models.

Pemberton is experienced in developing proposals for creating records management services, in developing strategic plans, in leading and championing programs, and in records and information training. The records management program at the University of Tennessee, for example, has saved the university more than twenty million dollars in direct and indirect costs. Pemberton is a successful grant writer, the winner of numerous achievement and leadership awards and is an internationally known writer, speaker and editor.

Pemberton serves as executive editor of The Information Management Journal, the premier journal in the field of records and information management. This award-winning journal is published by ARMA International, the professional association for 10,000 records and information managers in thirty-nine countries. He authored a book entitled Why Records Management? for PRISM International and was inducted into the ARMA International’s Company of Fellows in 1998.

Pemberton is a Professor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee, the state’s senior public research university. He teaches courses in records management, archives management, corporate information services, knowledge management and the management of information organizations.
