J. Norman Holcombe, Sr., CRM
Holcombe graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a B.S. in Business Administration, with a major in Industrial Management. He became a CRM in 1982. He is an active member of ARMA International and the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM). He is a past president of the Nashville and Richmond ARMA Chapters and has twice been recognized as Chapter Member of the Year. Holcombe has served as an Adjunct Professor in Records and Information Management at Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond), J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College (Richmond), and Highline College (Seattle).
Holcombe’s career started in 1969 with the Data Processing organization of the State of Tennessee as a computer programmer. He rapidly moved into management as a Computer Systems Development Manager. In 1975 Holcombe was asked to become the first Director of Records Management for the State. In this position, he led the then-new state-wide Records Management initiative for all State organizations. His previous positions include Corporate Records Manager for Cendant's Progeny Marketing Innovations (PMI) were he prepared Progeny for the Cendant-wide records management program implementation; National Records Management Consultant for Pitney Bowes Management Services where he provided technical support and consulting services to customers, prospects and management; Manager Records Administration & Administrative Services for GTE's Government Systems Corporation where he was responsible for the design, implementation, and management of a total records and information management program (this program was credited with documented savings/cost avoidance of over $9 million in 6 years by applying sound procedures, systems, and effective technology); Director, Information Management, International Mission Board (SBC), where he was responsible for developing a strategy to implement state-of-the-art information management systems for the worldwide operations; Information Resources Manager, Gulf+Western Natural Resources Group, where he designed, implemented, and managed a Records & Information Management program for all business units and locations; Office Automation & Records Management Consultant & Manager, Boeing Computer Services (BCS), internal consulting group for the Boeing Company, where he provided records & information management and office automation consulting services to the world's leading aircraft and aerospace manufacturer. In addition to his records & information activities, he has Administrative Services management experience, including mail services and operations; office supplies and equipment; shipping/receiving and warehouse services and operations; and graphics, print shop, reprographics center and convenience copiers.
