J. Michael Pemberton PhD, CRM, FAI
Pemberton is experienced in developing proposals for creating records management services, in developing strategic plans for records programs, and in leading and championing programs. The University of Tennessee’s records management program, which he created in 1983, is saving the university more than $300,000 in direct and indirect costs.
Mike is a successful grant writer, the winner of numerous achievement and leadership awards. He is an internationally known writer, speaker, and editor. He was inducted into ARMA International’s Company of Fellows (FAI) in 1998. For 10 years, Pemberton was executive editor of The Information Management Journal, the premier journal in the field of records and information management. This award-winning journal was published by ARMA International, the professional association for 11,000 records and information managers in thirty-seven countries. Mike is the first two-time winner of ARMA’s Britt Literary Award. He authored a book entitled
Why Records management? (2004), an overview of the field for PRISM International.
Pemberton is a 32-year emeritus professor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee, the state’s senior public research university. He has taught courses in records management, archives management, corporate information services, knowledge management , the information environment, and the management of information organizations.
